Australian Curriculum
The Australian Curriculum is being implemented across our school. With the revised Australian Curriculum rolling out from 2023 we will be working to full implementation over the coming years.
All phases of schooling at Our Lady Help of Christians are underpinned by Brisbane Catholic Education's Learning and Teaching Framework and The Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Declaration (2019). The Alice Springs Declaration sets the national vision for education for all Australians and notes two goals:
The Australian education system promotes excellence and equity.
All young Australians become:
Confident and creative individuals
Successful lifelong learners
Active and informed members of the community
School-wide Pedagogies
Consistency is applied across the school in terms of teaching approach to the different curriculum areas. Most curriculum areas require an inquiry focus in teaching and learning. Teachers make learning and success visible to the students via learning intentions, success criteria and timely feedback.
Our Lady Help of Christians currently utilises Multi-Age class groupings using curriculum bands (more information on the curriculum bands can be found using the Key Learning Areas menu option) as our guide to planning the teaching and learning cycles. These class groupings are:
Prep (2 classes)
Early Years (Three classes of Year 1 and Year 2)
Middle Years (Three classes of Year 3 and Year 4)
Senior Primary (One class of Year 5 and Year 6)
