Active School Travel

The Active School Travel program is run by the Brisbane City Council (BCC) and participating schools. The Program aims to increase active and healthy levels in students, reduce traffic congestion around schools and improve road safety awareness. It encourages parents, staff and children to walk, cycle, car pool or use public transport to get to and from school.

Our school is just one of 47 participating schools across Brisbane. Active School Travel promotes clean and green, active and healthy school travel modes such as walking, riding your bike or scooter, car pooling and public transport.

By leaving your car at home, at least one day a week on our active travel day, Wednesday, we can improve road safety and our health and fitness, create a cleaner environment and reduce traffic congestion at the school gate. How can you lose? If you have to drive to school, you could try parking away from the school (Park & Stride) and enjoy a 10 minute walk with your children.

We know that everyone is different, so there are lots of ways you can actively travel to school.

Leave the car at home and walk your kids to school.  If you live too far away, drive part of the way and walk the rest.  We call that “Park and Stride”.

Cycle or scooter

Ride with your children to school.  It’s legal to ride on the footpath and remember to always have your helmet secured.

Public Transport

Public transport is easy once you know how.  For bus, train and ferry timetables, visit, or phone 13 12 30.

Find a friend and carpool to school.  It’s an easy way to save money and time.  Talk to other parents in your child’s class or at music and sport to see who is going your way.

Our Active School Travel committee meet each month and plan fun activities, incentives and important skill sessions for our students. For more information on this committee, please contact the school office.
