Active School Travel
We won the Golden Boot award!
We had the highest percentage of children riding scooters to school in August. That meant we were given a new scooter rack, which is being placed next to the hall.
We were accepted again into Brisbane City Council’s Active School Travel program at the start of this year. This means we receive another three years of support, performances, training and fun.
Each Walking Wheeling Wednesday we ask everyone to really think about how they travel to and from school as part of our Active School Travel program.
All students have received an Active School Travel passport. Students who actively travel to schools on Wednesdays will collect stamps and earn lots of great rewards this year.
We know that everyone is different, so there are lots of ways you can actively travel to school. How will you actively travel to school?
Leave the car at home and walk your kids to school. If you live too far away, drive part of the way and walk the rest. We call that “Park and Stride”.
Cycle or scoot
Ride with your children to school. It’s legal to ride on the footpath and remember to always have your helmet secured.
Public transport is easy once you know how. For bus, train and ferry timetables, visit www.translink.com.au, or phone 13 12 30.
Find a friend and carpool to school. It’s an easy way to save money and time. Talk to other parents in your child’s class or at music and sport to see who is going your way.
Our Active School Travel committee meet each month and plan fun activities, incentives and important skill sessions for our students. For more information on this committee, please contact the school office.
So remember that EVERY Wednesday is Walking Wheeling Wednesday. How can you be active on the way to school?
